Runway Rivals: Official Rules and Terms of Participation

1. Overview

Event Name: Runway Rivals
Organiser: Starship Community (“Starship”)
Game: World of Warcraft® (Retail Version)

Event Description:
 Runway Rivals is Starship’s annual transmog competition celebrating creativity, style, and community within World of Warcraft. Participants showcase their transmogrification (“transmog”) designs before a live audience and judging panel for the chance to be crowned Starship’s Stunning Stylist of the Year.

Definitions : 

This document refers to members of the Starship leadership team holding a rank of Operations or above (“Starship Operation Team”) and Twitch or Discord moderators (“Community Moderators”).

Runway Rivals is a fan-led celebration supported under Blizzard’s community partnership programme. While Blizzard Entertainment supports and recognises Starship’s community initiatives, Blizzard is not directly responsible for the organisation, management, or prize fulfilment of this event.
All World of Warcraft® content and intellectual property remain the sole property of Blizzard Entertainment, Inc.

2. Eligibility

  • Participation is open to members and guests of the Starship Community Discord Server aged 18 years or older at the time of entry.

  • All participants must have an active World of Warcraft Retail account and be available on the appropriate region (EU) for the event.

  • Event organisers, judges, or members of the Starship Operations Team may not enter as contestants.

  • Entry is free. No payment or purchase is required to enter beyond an active World of Warcraft® subscription or game access necessary to participate.

  • The event is open to EU players only.

3. Entry and Registration

  • Registration will take place via the Starship Discord Server at https://discord.gg/starshipeu.

  • The event will include up to 20 participants, with a limited number of spaces reserved for invited community members and contributors. Remaining slots will be randomly allocated among all registered entrants.

  • Registrations will close on 22nd November at 23:59 RT.  Interest expressed after this time will not be considered.

  • A backup list of alternates will be maintained.

  • Official announcements of selected participants and alternates will be made via the Starship Discord.

Attendance

  • Registered participants must check in with an event organiser no later than 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.  This includes being online on the correct character and ready to enter the instance (by 17:30 RT).

  • Failure to check in may result in forfeiture of the participant’s spot to an alternate.

  • The event will start at 18:00 RT on November 30th 2025.  Participants will have been given instructions of where to be and timings prior to this date.

  • Registration will open by 23:59pm RT on 2nd November.

4. Event Format

Round 1: Showcase Your Set

Participants will be invited to an in-game raid group and summoned to the event location. Contestants will form a circle and be viewed individually by the judging panel.  Participants are judged only on armor and weapons (including any enchants).  During this round the use of toys, mounts and additional effects are not allowed and any use of these game elements could result in disqualification.

Round 2: The Catwalk

All participants will progress to the Catwalk Round, where they may use mounts, toys, pets, or other in-game effects to enhance their presentation

Livestream

The event will be streamed live at twitch.tv/starship_eu.
By entering, participants consent to:

  • Being featured on livestream and/or recorded footage;

  • Having their in-game character and transmog showcased publicly

5. Judging

Judging Criteria

Participants will be scored by the judging panel according to the following categories:

  1. Originality – How unique and imaginative is the ensemble?

  2. Colour Use – Do the chosen pieces complement each other? Are colours and style balanced?

  3. Theme - Is the theme well constructed throughout the transmog? Do all pieces match?

  4. Runway Style – How well is the transmog presented on the runway (e.g., emotes, toys, flair)?

We will use a numeric based system.  The first round will be scored on Originality, Colour Use and Theme with a total of 10 points maximum in each category.  The second round will be scored on Runway Style with a total of 10 points maximum for the category.  Each judge will also have an opportunity to change any of their previous scores at this stage after reflection. 

  • Each judge will be able to give a maximum of 40 points.

  • Three guest judges are expected, giving a maximum of 120 overall, however Starship reserves the right to change scoring if a judge becomes unavailable. 

6. Prizes

Prizes will be announced via the official event announcement and will be distributed by the Starship Operations Team.  

All prizes are:

  • Non-transferable and intended for the winner’s personal use.

  • Have no cash value and so cannot be exchanged.

  • Distributed by Starship after the event (dates to be confirmed to each individual dependent on the prize).

Starship reserves the right to substitute a prize of equivalent value in the event of unavailability.

7. Conduct and Community Standards

Runway Rivals reflects the values of the Starship community. All participants, judges, casters, and viewers are required to adhere to the following standards:

  • Respect and Inclusivity: Be kind, be human.

  • Zero Tolerance for Prejudice: Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or any form of hate speech or harassment will result in immediate disqualification and removal.

  • No Elitism: Derogatory comments or belittling behaviour are not tolerated.

  • Think of the Human: Remember that every player is a real person.

Violations may result in disqualification, Discord removal, and exclusion from future events.

8. Disqualification

Participants may be disqualified for:

  • Failure to attend or check in on time

  • Breach of Starship community standards or Discord rules, whether in-game, on Discord, on stream, or in any related event space.

  • Attempting to influence judges unfairly

  • Offensive or disruptive behaviour during the event or stream

  • Failure to follow organiser or caster instructions

Disqualified participants forfeit their place and any awarded prizes.

9. Dispute Resolution

  • Moderation: Starship moderators and the Starship Operation Team have the authority to manage disputes during the event. Their rulings are final.

  • Personal Disputes: Participants should use Blizzard’s or Discord’s built-in tools to block, mute, or report offenders.

  • Escalation: Serious cases may be escalated to Head of People for review after the event.

10. Media and Intellectual Property

  • By entering, participants grant Starship a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use event footage, screenshots, or media featuring their in-game characters for promotional or archival purposes (e.g. social media, highlight reels, Discord showcases).

  • All World of Warcraft® content and intellectual property remain the property of Blizzard Entertainment, Inc.

11. Privacy Notice

Starship collects limited participant information for the sole purpose of administering Runway Rivals. The information we typically collect includes your Discord handle and in-game character name.  Participants securing a physical prize will be required to give a full name and address to receive the prize.  We process this information to: (1) confirm registration and check-in, (2) administer and run the event, (3) announce results and promotional highlights and (4) ensure prizes are delivered promptly and to the correct individual.

How we may use and share your information

  • Event administration (check-in, alternates, prize distribution).

  • Public announcements and promotional use: your Discord handle and character name may be published as part of event communications (for example, in winner announcements, highlight reels, or social media posts on Starship channels). No additional personal contact details (such as private email addresses) will be published without your explicit consent.

  • Internal access: only members of the Starship Operations Team and event staff will have routine access to participant information.

Lawful basis

  • Where we publish handles or character names for winners and highlights, we will rely on participant consent or legitimate interest in community promotion, depending on the context. Where possible and practical, we will obtain explicit consent during registration for promotional publication.

Retention

  • Participant information will be held only for as long as necessary to fulfil event administration and promotional needs, after which it will be deleted or anonymised. 

Your rights

  • You have the right to request access to the personal data we hold about you, to request correction, and to request deletion. If you wish to exercise any of these rights, contact the Starship Operations Team at people@starshipeu.org. We will respond to requests in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

Security

  • We take reasonable steps to protect your information from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. Data is stored only by authorised members of the Starship Operations Team.

By registering for Runway Rivals, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Notice. Where required by law or where we request explicit publication permission, you will be prompted to give consent during registration.

12. Liability Disclaimer

Starship and its organisers are not responsible for:

  • Technical issues, disconnections, or lag affecting participation

  • In-game bugs, interruptions, or server downtime

  • Loss of digital items, rewards, or data

  • Any damages or losses resulting from participation

Participants take part at their own risk.

13. Amendments and Final Authority

  • Starship reserves the right to amend, clarify, or update these rules at any time for fairness or operational reasons.

  • Any updates will be announced on Discord prior to the event.

  • The Starship Operations Team’s decisions on any matter related to the event are final and binding.

14. Acceptance of Rules

By entering Runway Rivals, participants confirm that they:

  • Have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and Conditions;

  • Consent to the livestream and any promotional use of event footage; and

  • Agree to abide by all Starship and Discord community rules.
