Community Spotlight: Meib
Crafting Worlds Beyond Azeroth
At Starshipđ, we believe the heart of our community isnât just the raids, the Mythic+ nights, or the events: itâs the people who bring those moments to life. Our Community Spotlight series is all about giving those voices a place to be heard and celebrating the incredible individuals who make Starshipđ way more than just a World of Warcraft community.
This month, our spotlight falls on someone whose creativity doesnât stop when the raid ends. From chaotic events and meetups to a workshop filled with 3D printers, silicone moulds, and paintbrushes, Meib shows us how the imagination that thrives in Azeroth can shape entire worlds beyond it.
From TBC to the Mothership
For Meib, Azeroth has been home for a very long time.
âIâve been playing World of Warcraft since forever, well, since TBC.â
Over the years, sheâs met many wonderful people through the game, but two names stand out: her partner Blinkz and her âside chickâ Luxx. The trio has been inseparable since Warlords of Draenor.
When Luxx discovered Starshipđ, it didnât take long for all three to jump aboard.
âIâve been in Starshipđ now for one and a half years and funnily enough, Luxx was the one who found out about it. So we took our rubber boat and joined the big mothership together!â
At first, Meib was drawn in by the promise of helpful people and fun events. But whatâs kept her here is the heart of the community.
âHonestly, I wanted to join because I heard that a lot of people in this community are very helpful and that there were events that made the game feel a bit more refreshed and fun. And thatâs what also keeps me coming back for more.â
Her favourite memories? The list is long but Meib shared a few highlights..
âThe MD-WHY event was so much fun and very chaotic with all the WA plugins. Also the Starship BBQ meetup was pretty damn awesome, there are just so many great faces in this community.â
For someone who describes herself as shy, Starshipđ has been a welcome space.
âIt gives me a great reason to get together with friends and have fun. As Iâm a very introverted person, this community makes my social life way easier.â
The First Steps into Cosplay
When sheâs not adventuring in Azeroth, youâll usually find Meib in the middle of another kind of project: surrounded by tools, paints, and props-in-progress. She doesnât cosplay herself but creates pieces for others, allowing her to be part of the craft in her own way.
âIâve always admired cosplayers since I was a child, and Iâve been doing art since I was born basically. So I figured that instead of putting myself into the shoes of cosplay, I can make items for people who have more courage than me, and yet still be a part of it.â
Her very first project was a bold one: the original D.Va gun from Overwatch. She smiles remembering it.
âI had actually forgotten my first ever piece, but then it clicked! I made the original D.Va gun⌠it was printed from the first 3D printer me and Blinkz ever owned, and the colours I used were actually made to paint fabric with. I even put a light switch on it to make it light up.â
The end result might look simple to her now, but back then it was a triumph.
âToday I could probably make it 100 times better, but back then I was so amazed and thrilled with it that I probably couldnât remake it now, because of what it meant for me then.â
Years later, her skills have grown enormously. Each new piece brings its own challenges and learning curves, but one project stands above the rest: Xalâatathâs Dark Heart.
âOoo⌠hmmm, I think it has to be my newest addition, âcause it has taken me literally two months to master and Iâve finally managed to get it the way I want it. Our lovely Xalâatathâs Dark Heart.â
Two months of trial, error, sanding, and painting later, she finally achieved the finish she was looking for. Itâs a piece that captures both her dedication and her playful determination.
The Chaos of Creation
Of course, cosplay isnât all glitter and glory. Itâs hours of painstaking work.
âI think there are a lot of challenging parts of cosplay making. Sometimes I have to design 3D model pieces on my computer, then thereâs the printing process, knowing what settings to use, what material to use, where to place supports so that minimum printing issues occur. Recently Iâve also gone into resin pouring which is crazy work. Youâd think pouring something isnât that hard, but it really is!â
Once the pieces are shaped, the sanding begins. A step many creators dread but which is key to a professional finish. For Meib, itâs all part of the process.
And then comes the fun part.
âThe most rewarding is of course the painting job! Itâs so much fun⌠and sometimes frustrating haha.â
Balancing Azeroth and Art
Finding balance between her projects and Starshipđ isnât about strict routines, but about letting one hobby fuel the other. When her energy dips, Azeroth is the perfect reset button.
âYes, itâs very time consuming to make these pieces, but gaming gives me a break when motivation is low. Sometimes just stopping what youâre doing and going into a delve or a Mythic+ mid-project helps me get back on track.â
Inspiration usually strikes from the games she plays, though anime often sparks her creativity too. Sheâs yet to create an anime-inspired piece, but itâs only a matter of time.
When it comes to a âdream cosplay,â Meib doesnât have a single project in mind. Her creativity is more spontaneous.
âI donât think I have a specific dream cosplay. Art for me is very sporadic, and if something catches my eye in the right moment, Iâll snap it up and start creating.â
That said, she knows exactly who sheâd pick if she ever turned her cosplay skills on the Starshipđ community. None other than our founder, Adam!
âI think if I had to cosplay one person from Starshipđ⌠it would have to be Adam. Idk if I could pull it off but maybe thatâs where I need to go next?â
For newcomers wanting to try cosplay themselves, her advice is heartfelt and encouraging.
âEven if you donât have all the tools and all the fancy stuff, itâs kinda like dressing up for Halloween. It doesnât matter if youâre 100% lore accurate to the thing or person you wanna cosplay. Use painted cardboard, make-up, clothes you already have! Iâve seen so many creative things out thereâso if you have a burning passion for it or are just curious, just do it! <3â
Shy But Friendly
At the end of our chat, we asked Meib to sum herself up in Starship in just three words. Her answer was simple:
âShy but friendly. So donât be afraid to approach me!â
And that really is the heart of it. Behind the shy smile is someone who brings warmth, laughter, and creativity wherever she goes, whether sheâs raiding with friends, sanding a prop until her fingers ache, or painting life into a weapon that once only existed on-screen.
Thank you, Meib, for sharing your story with us, and for being such a valued part of the Starshipđ family.
