Community Spotlight: Malmis

As a part of our ongoing Community Member Spotlight series, we here at Starship wanted to point the light onto one of our lesser-known members in Starship. This month, we’ve chosen Malmis, who is a Marksman Hunter hailing from Sweden and is an important member of our Phoenix raid team. We’ve asked her a few questions so that you can get to know her a bit better and what some of her favourite things in game are.

Enjoy :)

Why did you pick the pets you have? I can see that they’re called Huginn and Muninn - are you a fan of Norse mythology?

For any raid, I usually want to bring something useful so I look at some Hunter websites and choose accordingly. When they changed the Hunter pets to be any spec, it was easier to just go with the pet you liked. It was a wonderful decision from Blizzard. This is when I went with the ravens, and it just felt right to name them Hugin and Munin, the only names I know for ravens because of Odin. I would not say I'm into Norse mythology, but of course it is not uncommon where I live (Sweden).  I like when the pets are small so they don't get in the way of my vision (when checking the mailbox or talking to NPC's for example). I have read that the Aqiri pet is the best for raiding at the moment, so that is what I use. I have Ture, Conny and Frank, depending on what pet spec I need at the given moment (Tenacity, Cunning and Ferocity). But my favourites right now are the frogs, Tiny and Sneaky. They are so small! So you can not even see them when I'm out and about in the dungeons.

Have you always played Hunter? Why? Would you say it’s class identity or the chance to collect pets?

Yes, I still have my old Horde Hunter, 163 days, retired in Orgrimmar. And I still remember walking out from the newbie area, into the enormous world of Durotar. It was an amazing feeling! Now I have my Alliance Hunter, 42 days and counting.  I have tried out healing on a Priest and tanking on a Paladin, but I always end up going back to the Hunter. I love how easy it is to play, easy to play solo content (which I often do). I have my own tank, and now in delves I even have Brann as the healer. Very convenient. When I try out other games, I usually end up being a ranged dps of some sort, also not magic. I do like to collect things as well. To collect the pets is a game in itself, even if you don't need that many, I also love to collect Battle Pets.

Is there a Pet type that you don’t have yet and would like?

Not that I know of. I always make an effort to try to get the pets with rare looks, if I am to catch a new pet.

What’s been your hardest pet to get so far? What effort did it take to get that pet?

I guess some of the spirit beasts, for example Loque'nahak. It takes a lot of time and waiting. And some luck. The taming itself is not hard, it is to find them pets that can be difficult sometimes. To go back day after day, week after week and so on. And see other Hunters looking as well. The best moments is when you see a friendly gamer doing a shout out in the chat that some rare pet is up. And they invite you to a group and help out. That is pure bliss. And the agony when you just spot the rare pet and someone random kills it…

Is there a pet in game that an NPC has but you’ve always wanted but can’t get?

Not that I'm aware of. I usually don't pay to much attention to others, and I rarely get jealous.

and bonus question…who’s your favourite NPC hunter in game?

I am horrible with lore. I'm one of those that hardly pay attention to quest-text... sorry! Which goes hand in hand with that I have very limited gaming time. So I stress a bit when I play. The Hunters I do remember are Rexxar, Hemet Nesingwary and Brann. I remember that I liked the quests with Rexxar. Oh and Alleria Windrunner... but she feels a little too "magically" for a Hunter.

Also - I’ve been asked to mention how you found Starship and what has been your favourite moment so far?

I did not find Starship, but ElloaWendy did. She is a streamer on Twitch that I follow, and so I tagged along for the ride when she joined the community. I am so happy she found it.  The greatest moments with Starship is the interaction with the community. They are helpful, kind and inclusive. I love to raid with my team. There are so many events for everyone to take part in, I try to join when I can. The Sunday raid school is brilliant! I am so thankful for the leadership in Starship, and I hope they will have the energy and strength to keep at it for a long time.
